Why does my dog get muscle injuries?
Dogs are highly active animals and muscle injuries are fairly common. The main function of the skeletal muscle tissue is to produce movement and maintain posture and body position. The contraction of a muscle produces the necessary power for a body to move. If a muscle contracts frequently without being stretched back to an elongated position, it tends to remain in a shortened position. Starting a contraction from a shortened position creates less power compared to starting from an elongated position. If the shortened position of the muscle persists, it can create issues for the muscle and its tendons. The weakened muscle has to work harder than it has the power to do and thus sets up the general framework for muscle injuries: the muscle will start to break down and tear. Canine Myofunctional Therapy helps to loosen contracted shortened muscles and reduces tension through applying therapeutic massage techniques and stretches to the affected areas.
